Reprise of the Marian List

Post by Gaius Cassius on Wed Mar 29, 2017 6:10 pm

I've agreed to assist Lorenzo in getting some of the proposed Beta Lists finalized and approved on the Forum. Dennis Maxentius did some initial good work on the Marian list and I updated it to include agreed upon changes and fix a few small pointing issues. Please feel free to offer further comments and criticism on this list so that we can get it approved and included in the Beta lists. I see this as part of larger project to assist in getting the foundation prepared for Impetus 2. It will be easier for Lorenzo to get comprehensive book of lists completed if he can draw from the Beta lists as a starting point.

Marc Antony's army in the Parthian War? Or is that the generic "Eastern"?

Not sure how the 2nd Triumvirate should be handled (perhaps a different list?)

I think Dennis took the upgrade for all S from the Caesar's Romans in the Impetus rules. Probably a bit generous to allow this.

You can always use the dreaded "up to half of...".

I believe there was an emphasis on the use and training of slingers in the Parthian campaigns as an anti-cavalry tactic. That would appear to justify some upgrading.

It was a very ad-hoc period.

Shouldn't there be an option for the Mithridatic Wars allowing allies of Bithynian, Greeks, & Galatian mercenaries for the Romans

I've asked starkadder to take Dennis' work and refine the list further. Hopefully Rex will provide us with something to review in the near future.

The 50% FL upgrade - does that trigger replacing the Jav w Hvy Jav?

Suggest only applies to Spanish and does not trigger Hvy Jav

I would agree with that. I am writing something up at the minute. Be prepared to be bored.
