shooting casualties on a disordered unit

Post by aphillathehun on Sat Jan 24, 2015 5:54 am

A disordered unit fails the cohesion test and loses a point from its VBU. Does it lose another point from its VBU for being disordered from this shooting and already being disordered?

Not 100% certain I understand the question but

Lose 1 point for disorder
Lose 1 point per loss

So if you are disordered and have 1 loss then your total modifier is -2

GG, I think you are talking about the modifiers to the cohesion test, I understand the question to be about the reduction to to the unit's VBU as a result of the cohesion test.

The 'disorder loss' applied to a unit taking a cohesion test only applies if the unit passes the test, per rule 6.2.1 or 7.6.1. Otherwise, rule 6.2 determines the losses when the cohesion test is failed.

So I think the answer to the question is no. If the unit fails the cohesion test by 1 it loses 1 VBU even if already disordered (the disorder being taken into account in the cohesion test itself). If the disordered unit passes the cohesion test, it still loses 1 VBU, as a 'disorder loss'. For shooting, these different causes of the VBU loss make no difference, but in a melee they do because a unit suffering a 'disorder loss' has not lost the melee even if its opponent doesn't suffer any casualties.

RogerC is correct. A disordered VBU5 FL unit is fired on at Short Range. The firing unit cause one damage on the FL. The FL rolls its CT with the following modifiers, 5 +1 for range and -1 for disorder, -1 for one damage. That means it passes its test on 4. Assume it rolls a 3 on the CT test. Since it passed its test it takes one VBU for suffering damage disordered. Should it roll a 5 it takes one VBU loss for failing the test by one. Should it roll a 6 it takes 2 VBU loss.

That's the way I read it but my opponent said in addition to the loss from failing the cohesion test, there should be another loss from a disordered unit becoming disordered by taking damage.
