Pursuing after Disengagement

Post by Gaius Cassius on Mon Mar 23, 2015 4:00 pm

We have started to use disengagement more in our play and we've noticed a small anomaly in the wording with respect to the pursuit provision of the rule.

The last paragraph in 5.11.3 reads,

"If the enemy Unit is Impetuous it must pursue up to 1d6, halved (rounded up) in Infantry. Non-Impetuous enemy Units may pursue by the distance on a 1d6. Units with an I=0 may not pursue."

We are wondering if this paragraph should read the following (with the additions in bold)

"If the enemy Unit is Impetuous it must pursue up to 1d6, halved (rounded up) if Infantry. Non-Impetuous enemy Units may pursue by the distance on a 1d6, halved (rounded up) if Infantry. Units with an I=0 may not pursue."

Pursuit in all other cases has infantry moving at 1/2 a d6 and impetuous infantry pursuing after a disengagement also pursue in this manner. Did this additional phrase get left out or is non impetuous infantry allowed to pursue disengaging troops a full 1d6?

Given other pursuit distances I would suggest the full d6 is for cavalry (bearing in mind that under the rules in the book medium cav would have to break off from a "stick" so we're only talking about heavies here).

Of course, that isn't how it reads, I merely suspect that is what it is intended to be.

Gaius, it is as you suggest. Impetuous or not the move the same, just only impetuous are forced to move
