Advanced Impetus 1.7

Post by Oldentired on Wed Sep 02, 2015 3:08 am

I think I must be going blind. Has the +2 charge bonus to Impetuous large units been restored?

Otherwise, better be spending 15pts on scorpions for my Middle Imperials... Shocked

Why bother spending anything on a light artillery unit that disappears if its parent unit moves, fights or wonders what it had for breakfast?

If it is factored into the base, you may be able to get away with standing very still. Not very Roman, in my opinion.

If it is not factored into the base and is represented by a separate stand, then that is the end of the Romans. Automatic removal on move or contact means loss of flank support and no fire support within 5U.

I did not want to get involved in this merry go round of a conversation again but this is not a good concept.

I like it: you can use scorpios in a big battery or evenly spread. And if I understand the new rule correctly you can move and next turn you´ll be able to shoot again.
...the end of the romans...

that would be nice, I don´t like them anyway Very Happy

Hi Stark

It is not what we playtested (automatic loss is the issue for me, mainly for tracking purposes) but as I read it it is NOT a separate stand so does not effect the Romans in relation to line support etc

It is weaker than I tested but at the same time cheaper

Time will tell

Meh. What happens happens. The term "attached" is ambiguous in my opinion.

Pay the points and factor it into the base is usable even if it makes the battle-line up to 30% shorter.

Not sure how you work out he line is 30% shorter as there is nothing that costs 15 points available to extend the line?

Fewer points available for legionary bases.

A 28mm 350 pt tournament army would be lucky to make six or seven bases. Two poor commanders and a good CS equals 60 pts. Six bases at 43 (28+15) equals 258. You are already at 318 pts with no support troops. And with poor commanders. The Celts would love it.

If the term "attached" means that the base has an integrated scorpion capacity then a 28 pt base with a scorpion at 15 pts means a 43 point base on the same frontage.

It's the same if it is represented behind the unit (that was one of the uglier solutions discussed at one point).

If it is represented beside the unit, then my observation on automatic loss of flank support is still relevant.

Yes you need only equip a couple of them, I suppose but that would still kill most of your deployment and manoeuvre options, particularly if you need to move.

I won't post on this thread again.

Hi only play late Romans but my reading of the Scorpio new rule is that you pay 15 points and then "all Roman units (FP)" have the Scorpio dice automatically.

Guess would just need a suitable marker to take off each unit when lost due to combat?

Very well, that is how I shall also interpret it.

it is, at best, ambiguous.

err - you pay 15 points and every Legionary gets it - not 15 points per base. I don't see any ambiguity there

Agreed, I don't see how this is particularly ambiguous:

If you pay the cost of a Scorpio light artillery (15pts) unit, you can provide all Roman legionary Units (FP) of Caesarian Romans, Early Imperial Romans, Middle Imperial Romans with attached light scorpios.

Pay once and all listed FP gain the benefit.

It may have been better to say "If you pay the cost for Scorpio light artillery (15pts) then you can provide..." The use of the term 'a Scorpio unit' is a bit awkward given that we equate unit with base.
