UK Circuit Comitee

Post by dadiepiombo on Mon Sep 28, 2015 12:55 pm

I think (with in mind the discussion about Derby competition) that UK o OZ should have a Competition Comitee, something that we have adopted in Italy and works, avoiding nasty discussions.

Every club that attends the circuit (in Italy at least 2 players belonging to that club should have attended at least 2 competitions in the previous season, but you can decide in a different way) has a representative. These representative discuss each other on the season and solution to adopt. In this way Organizers doesn't take choices not condivided by the rest of the community. Also these representative can keep updated the members of their club on what is going on.

I think it is a good idea in theory but it depends on how many clubs would be represented - not sure about Italy but in the UK there are literally thousands of games clubs, plus quite a lot of folks who are not members of a club at all. That could be a big committee

well, in this case could be the clubs that organize at least 1 event

I'm sure something can be agreed - how do you want to organise it??

(edit)

With hindsight it would be pretty easy to organise the main events in the UK as there is not that many - Derby in England, Cardiff in Wales and Claymore (?) in Scotland as the main events and then some regional ones such as Reading & York

If Derby is anything to go by we only have 4 clubs represented so it should be easy

I think a dedicated organising committee would be a good idea, feeding into the main events. I;ve not been to Claymore but if you look at the other events Ken has mentioned, there is normally a core of gamers that you meet at most of the organised events with the numbers bolstered from the local hosting club and those living within easy reach of the venue.

The "regulars" seem to represent distinct areas of the UK where there are regular events - west (Cardiff), north (Middlesborough), central (Derby) and way north (Scotland). Looking at past years calendars the events also string out neatly to roughly one per quarter.

One possible way to reinvegorate interest in the tournaments could be for a committee representing the regions with each representative committing to smaller, regional events in between the large shows. Perhaps even organised into a regional league-type system which could then build up to a national system with the possibility of a competition within a competition at the larger events.

If I look at our own club as an example, and informing my only view on the matter so other clubs may vary, we have 4 that game Impetus regularly of which 2 are regular competition attendees. If we hosted a 3-game event we could probably get 6 - 8 from our club. Assuming another 4 within reasonable driving distance begins to make it a reasonable turnout.

Doing that, say twice per year plus the large show competitions begins to add up to a reasonable amount of tournament games in a year without breaking the bank or going AWOL for entire weekends.

There are many other permutations on the theme that could work as well.

Anyway, just some thoughts but in summary I think some type of national co-ordination coupled to loacalised activity would be really beneficial to the system and to those who want to play more, but for a variety of reasons can't.

Regards

John
