Old Kingdom Egyptian

Post by SteveI42 on Thu Oct 22, 2015 10:10 am

Having a few days enforced rest has given me time to think on this list a litte. Unfortunately I don't have access to points costings etc so am hoping one of you kind gents can fill in the blanks! Including cost and numbers please.

Foot FL(*) 8 4 1 B 2 ?(?)
Archers T 6 4 0 B 2 ? Short Bow B
Or All T 6 3 0 B 2 ? Short Bow A
Levy FL 8 3 1 C 1 ?(?)

Im sure there should also be a few S?

Notes:
Upgrade any Foot containing a general to
FL 8 5 1 B 3 ?
FL can form large units, these can be formed by any combination of Foot and Levy troops. The unit with the highest VDU forms the front rank. The large unit operates with the lowest D rating for all tests but uses that of its front rank when comparing to any opposition units in melee.

I hope most off that makes sense and that you can all poor I some suggestions and hard figures. I've tried to keep the list simple, not overly powerful or aggressive, but with a little twist in the large unit formation to give it a little individuality.

1/General-16 Foot FL(*) 8 4 1 B 2 16pts(11pts)
8-18 Archers T 6 4 0 B 2 16pts Short Bow B
Or All T 6 3 0 B 2 18pts Short Bow A
2-10 Levy. FL 8 3 1 C 1 9pts(6pts)
0-10 Skirmishers S 8 2 0 C 1 9pts Short Bow B

Generals Optional Upgrade
FL 8 5 1 B 3 20pts

Had a bit of awake time and found a points cost list. Think ive got them right but the skirmishers look too expensive.

Generally the Nubians are regarded as having "better" archers than the Egyptians. Nubians are modeled at VBU 4 Short Bow A. The choice gives two ways to make the Egyptians worse; either a lower VDU or worse technology.
The lower VDU is a more simple way to model the difference but has the disadvantage of making them very fragile.
The worse technology makes them as resilient as the Numidians but not as good in a match up.

Each option gets the result of giving the Nubian the advantage but also gives the player the choice on how to model it

Now with added light troops;

C.S. Poor 0pts
1/General-16 Foot FL(*) 8 4 1 B 2 16pts(11pts)
8-18 Archers T 6 4 0 B 2 16pts Short Bow B
Or All T 6 3 0 B 2 18pts Short Bow A
2-10 Levy. FL 8 3 1 C 1 9pts(6pts)
0-16 Skirmishers S 8 2 0 C 1 9pts Javelin
Up to 1/4 deployed Skirmishers can be Short Bow A
Up to 1/4 deployed Skirmishers can be Sling

Generals Optional Upgrade
FL 8 5 1 B 3 20pts

Does that all look about right? Any suggestions From anyone else? Or can I ask Lorenzo to verify it?

Seems ok but I would increase all troop maximum numbers by about a quarter.
I also agree with the short bow B to S.

However the points and VD don't seem correct. Should be:
2nd rank Foot 12
VBU 4 archers 14 + VD 2 or 1
VBU 3 archers 16 + VD 1
2nd rank Levy 7
Skirmishers 7 or
Skirmishers with short bow A 11 but also 7 pts if with bow B

Thanks for the S with Short Bow clarification and also for checking through the points for me.
However I feel that the VD off the T units needs to be 2. Both they and the Foot are core troops and their loss would be of more importance than that of the Levy. Also dropping them to 1 makes them far too expendable should the enemy get too contact. Having them o.k. par with the Foot means it is more sensible to use the Foot I the melee role they eere intended for.

What's the thinking about making OKE units deep \ Large? Is this a reflection of any historical evidence or based on opposition?

Sorry in the rush to get posted I should have said Shortbow A for skirmishers - most (all??) S types are SB-B - giving them A makes them very (over) powerful skirmish shooters

Sorry yes S should be Short Bow B

Having FL as Large units is based on the descriptions of them formed in columns or deep lines
