Reaction Fire and Unusual Situations

Post by Gaius Cassius on Thu Dec 10, 2015 3:41 am

Wondered how others interpret the following situations in a game we played last night.

In one situation a CP advanced against a CL. The CL at the start of the move blocked any possible reaction fire from a friendly FL. The CP's advance was such that it moved through the FL's ZOC on an angle that would not make it contact the FL. The CP declared that it was occupying the ground of the CL and CL evaded by making its DT.  The evade now unblocked the FL and the CP occupied the CL's former position. Does the FL get to make a reaction fire?

In a second situation a FP was exiting the ZOC of an enemy S unit. Had it been able to make its full movement it would have been able to do so. However, the FP was attacked by an enemy CP on opportunity and was forced to end its move in the ZOC of the S. Does the S get to do a reaction fire?

Thanks for your input.

Re: Reaction Fire and Unusual Situations

I'll take a stab at this.

For the first situation I would say the FL gets to shoot. Page 22 says "Any reaction must be before the activation of the enemy's next unit." So implies that the reaction shooting comes in at any time during the targets activation.

For the second situation I would say it does not get to shoot, on the grounds that the target is now in melee contact. But I agree this one is bit tricky.

Re: Reaction Fire and Unusual Situations

Interestingly, we adjudicated the two situations as you suggested Aurelius.

In example 1. I argued that as evade is technically a involuntary move and as such should be treated like a pursuit. The other players made the argument that you made above and we went with that interpretation.

In example 2 the majority felt that since the opportunity charge interrupted the move the point at which the reaction fire could occur the FP would be in melee. One player took the position that the FP didn't clear the ZOC (for whatever reason) and as such, the S should get to fire.

Thanks for your reply.
