clarification on commanders

so on page 10 it states that commanders grant a +1 melee modifier, but i can't find it anywhere else in the book.

i'm assuming this means +1d6 in melee (i.e. MM+1), and not a +1 per dice?

because the latter wouldn't make much sense.

FWIW - it as also listed in the QRS under leaders.
I am playing that an attached leader is +1d6. To me it makes sense since the attached leader is at risk in the Cohesion Test. Also agree that that all the other melee (and shooting) modifiers appear to be by adding or subtracting dice.
