Playing with 2 x 12cm unit width

Post by jeztodd on Thu Apr 28, 2016 12:36 pm

Hi All

I am an Impetus Renaissance player and looking forward to my first game of Baroque. I am especially interested in the French Wars of Religion battles. I am just wondering if any one has played Baroque yet using a unit width of 24 cm?

The advantage for Impetus players is that this is simply 2 x 12 cm standard Impetus bases.

I see from the rules it is fine with a Baroque Unit BU that can be flexible but just interested if anyone has tried this?

Cheers Jez

Hmm standard Impetus bases are 80mm so that doesn't work Smile

I've played most of my practice games in 6mm on 60mm bases with no ill effects.

So if halving doesn't upset things, can't see why doubling would.

only in 15mm... in 28mm it's 120 mm Razz

It's not the only standard then is it - it's just one option Shocked

Why would you not just play with your "standard" 120mm Impetus bases which are the same size as a "standard" 120mm Baroque base? Arrow

Because in Baroque the 28mm unit standard is 18cm perhaps?

Hi yes agree it looks a funny post but it is just a way of trying to stretch and use the 12 cm frontage Impetus based Renaissance figures I currently have. In Impetus the figures are based to be either Pikes or T Shooters and am just playing around with options.

For example I already have nice Imperialist type Landskecht pike and shot units- but these are separate units and based separately.

The main difficulty is trying to represent the Tercio in Baroque rules. Of course I could just play Baroque using a 12 cm frontage unit and have a row of skirmishers in front of a pike block and call it a Tercio but "visually" it does not look that good. Notice there is already a different thread on this theme.

I was thinking if I double up to 24 cm frontage it might give me some options .... basically just trying to maximise possibilities.

Anyway I still have to play my first game .....

I'd play a couple of games first and then with those under your belt you'll have a feel for the way things work.

Because the move distances are tied to the base frontage you shouldn't get too many problems. The main one will be the size of table needed because troops will cover the ground remarkably quickly Shocked

Baroque can be played with any frontage (provide you have a table big enough)
